Scooby-Doo Team-Up! #42

Scooby-Doo Team-Up! #42

DC comics have a long history of featuring gorillas, apes, and monkeys. If you’d like a capsule history of just how many, check out the latest issue of Scooby-Doo Team-Up! It’s “gorilla warfare” in issue #42 as written by Sholly Fisch and illustrated by Dario Brizuela.

The mayor has called in the kids to drive Monsieur Mallah and the vampire gorilla Pryemaul out of City Hall. To help, Scooby and his friends enlist the detective Sam Simeon, Detective Chimp, and Congorilla.

There’s not much plot here — although there are some clever tactics — because just about every page turn reveals another monkey from comic history. Some of them I hadn’t even heard of! But it’s lots of fun, with plenty of silly surprises. I’m so glad there’s still room for a title like this on the racks.

(Surprisingly, I had actually heard of Pryemaul because he showed up in Doctor 13: Architecture & Mortality as one of the almost-completely-forgotten characters. He’s more entertaining here.)

I don’t want to reveal one of the clever tricks, but it is one of the most clever tricks in a comic series filled with clever tricks. And Fred’s reaction may be the but line in any comic, ever.

    BEST line in comics.

(All the typos I could have made…)

I haven’t picked this issue up from my LCS yet, but I am so looking forward to it! Scooby Doo Team Up is my current favorite DC title (has been since issue # 1) and one of my favorite from any publisher!

  • Same here! It’s nice to have such a consistent pleasure to look forward to.
