Oni Press Announces Sanrio Graphic Novels for “Lazy Egg”

Oni Press, which has had great success with licensed publications, has announced a new deal. They will be working with Sanrio (home of Hello Kitty and many other merchandise characters) to put out a series of comic books featuring Gudetama, the “lazy egg”.

(I discovered the character at this year’s TCAF, and I found him adorable, particularly when napping on a bed of rice as sushi. You more often see him uncooked, though, as a yolk.)

Oni will put out at least three graphic novels a year featuring the character as a series of “Comic Guides”, each “focusing on a different aspect of modern daily life”. Each will be hardcover, 48 pages, and $9.99. The first, Gudetama: Love for the Lazy, is by writer/artist Wook-Jin Clark and will debut for Valentine’s Day next year.

Gudetama: Love for the Lazy will offer advice for young adults (and those young at heart!) on everything from setting up an online dating profile to selecting that perfect first date outfit, and of course all that falls in-between!
