First Second Announces Comics Relief Festival
Next Saturday, April 18, First Second will be holding a virtual festival they’re calling Comics Relief. From 11 AM – 5 PM (ET), “this free virtual festival will give comics fans an in-depth look at the key moments in comic creation, and you’ll hear from many beloved graphic novel creators.” Guests include
- Lisa Brown (The Phantom Twin)
- Lucy Knisley (Go to Sleep (I Miss You))
- Kat Leyh (Snapdragon)
- Ngozi Ukazu (Check, Please!: Sticks & Scones)
- Lily Williams & Karen Schneeman (Go With the Flow)
- Gene Luen Yang (Dragon Hoops)
All of those titles came out from First Second this year, and the authors aren’t able to make the usual convention appearances, so this virtual book convention is the next best thing. And those I’ve had the pleasure of speaking with are wonderful presenters, with lots of interesting things to say about themselves and their work.
Now, there’s no guarantee you’ll get to go. You have to visit the dedicated webpage to pre-register. Then you’ll get an email when registration is open. And they warn “Note that pre-registering DOES NOT guarantee admission to the event.” But if you are able to attend, it should make for a fun day!
Update: The panels are now available on YouTube.
