Love*Com Volume 2

I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed this romantic comedy by Aya Nakahara, especially coming in a book late. Love*Com is a classic pairing of opposites executed with believable teenage romantic confusion. Risa’s the tallest girl in the class, and Otani’s the shortest boy. Both have crushes on more typically attractive students, so they try to help each other. Unfortunately, their crushes wind up going out with each other, leaving the two misfits to bond out of desperation. […]

Sinfest Rocks!

The best webcomic out there? Sinfest by Tatsuya Ishida. Clever, creative, always fresh and funny, amazing cartooning skills. Today I’m pointing it out because this particular strip blends religion and superheroes in a way that’s respectful to conventions of both and still over-the-top hilarious. But it’s good all the time. Congratulations, Valerie!

Valerie D’Orazio is the new Friends of Lulu President. That gives me hope for seeing the organization gain some new life, because she’s a pistol. Congratulations and best wishes! Silver Bullet Comics Update

A week after the news broke of Silver Bullet Comics’ tax sale, the owner has posted a response to much of the gossip. Zuda Announces First Winner, Competitors

DC Comics’ new webcomics imprint, Zuda, has announced a go-live date of Tuesday (?) October 30. However, most of their announcements are already being made elsewhere from their main site. There’s not necessarily anything wrong with that, if you want to curry favor with certain outlets, but at least I would have expected the information to be available at the main URL. Newsarama had details of their first “instant winner” (link no longer available): Jeremy Love, an established former self-publisher […]

Silver Bullet Comics Dead?

Silver Bullet Comics used to be a comic book retailer in North Carolina. (Please note that they are not the same as Silver Bullet Comic Books, a more active online site, about which more later.) First, in August, SBC closed their physical store in Winston-Salem, deciding to focus on online sales. Comments at the Newsarama Blog post (links no longer available) reporting the change were quite critical of the site’s customer service, complaining of unreceived orders. After publicizing that problem, […]
