Batman: Gotham Adventures #13 Made Me Cry

KC was sorting through some boxes of comics and pulled out Batman: Gotham Adventures #13 (cover-dated June 1999) because it’s more than just a cartoon-look-inspired adventure. I’ll tell you why. But first, since personalities will be so important to understanding what the story is really about, it’s written by Kelley Puckett and illustrated by Rick Burchett and Terry Beatty. It stars, as the villains, the trio of Mastermind, the Perfesser, and Mr. Nice, together known as the Threatening Three. That’s […]

The Baker Street Peculiars Gives Full Art Credit

Out today is the fourth and final issue of The Baker Street Peculiars by Roger Langridge and Andy Hirsch. It turned out to be much more a “group of kids save the day from fantastic monsters” than the classic mystery its name might suggest, but there were still some bits of Sherlock Holmes involved (although fans will quibble with the portrait of the Great Detective as being wrong). I was particularly taken, though, with the required denouement, when Martha Hudson […]

The Ancestor of Lying Cat

Do you know Lying Cat? She’s a fan favorite character in Saga, the science fiction comic by Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples, as shown here. My friend Leah has been reading the Joss Whedon/John Cassaday run on Astonishing X-Men, and she found the following panel of the cat-like Beast in issue #24, which was published in 2008 — four years before Saga and Lying Cat debuted in 2012. Of course, it’s a coincidence, but I thought some of you […]

Marvel Continues Disney Tsum Tsum Push With Variant Covers in August

Tying into the August release of Marvel Tsum Tsum #1, the company has announced 20 variant covers will be released that same month, called Marvel Tsum Tsum Takeover Variants. There is a whole lot of cuteness in the images below. (Click to enlarge.) My favorites are an adorable Groot with Rocket Raccoon and Lockjaw protecting his buddies. And who would have thought that we’d see a classic Wolverine cover redone with a pile of stuffed beanie shapes? All-New Wolverine #11 […]

Today’s Surprise Gift

KC got me a surprise present today to cheer me up. I had no idea they made a Funko Pop! Wonder Woman Invisible Jet! I’m kind of scared to get too far into the Pop! figures, because they make them for EVERYthing. I only had two previously, both geek girls with glasses. I’m thinking, though, I need to get the Agent Carter one just to round out the team. She doesn’t have glasses, but she has a hat! (Are there […]

Two Catwomen Meet Across Generations

I suspect most comic fans aren’t aware of Home & Family, a daily talk show on the Hallmark Channel hosted by Mark Steines and Cristina Ferrare focusing on home improvement, parenting tips, health and fitness, and lifestyle issues. Yesterday, they aired a segment where Camren Bicondova (who plays Catwoman on Gotham) was introduced to Julie Newmar, the classic TV Catwoman. You can watch it here: It’s the usual happy chat, but it is neat to see how the character has […]

New Monkees Video Uses Comic Art

The Monkees, the band that brought KC and I together, had their peak success in the mid 1960s, although they released singles from 1966-1971. The 80s revival, spurred by MTV rerunning their TV show (which shared a lot in common with music videos and modern editing and comedy techniques) resulted in a few more single releases in 1986 and 1987. So it’s been almost 30 years since the band put out a single (and 20 years since a new album). […]
