Lego DC Comics Super Heroes: Justice League vs. Bizarro League Announced

As a followup to the Lego Batman movie, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has announced that Lego DC Comics Super Heroes: Justice League vs. Bizarro League will be available on Blu-ray (list price $24.98), DVD ($19.98), and digital on February 10, 2015. The purchase version of the movie will come with an exclusive Batzarro minifigure while supplies last. The direct-to-home-video movie is described as “action-packed and hilarious”, and I have to admit, based on the trailer below, the alternate Justice League […]

Marvel’s Upcoming Film Slate

Following Warner’s superhero movie slate announcement a couple of weeks ago, Marvel has laid out specifics of their movie plans in this video. Or, as they put it, details of their “cinematic universe”, which sounds much more exciting! The visuals are mostly logos, and the first couple are expected. After next year’s Avengers: Age of Ultron comes a Doctor Strange movie in late 2016. The Guardians of the Galaxy sequel has been moved to May 2017 so another Thor, Ragnarok, […]

Guardians of the Galaxy Out on Home Video for Holidays

Guardians of the Galaxy, like so many big movies these days, is getting a tiered release. You can rent or buy it digitally this month, on November 18, in HD or 3D formats. I’m curious to see it again, to see how it views differently now that I know the surprises … and how successful it was, as the number one movie of 2014. The home video release comes out in three formats next month, on December 9. There’s a […]

DC All Access Lists Upcoming Warner Superhero Films

DC All Access ran down an announcement of all the upcoming Warner/DC superhero movies in this segment: Or if you’d rather jump right to the news, here’s a screen shot of the final run-down: That’s two superhero movies a year for five years, starting in 2016, plus unscheduled solo Batman and Superman movies. Warner Brothers is clearly stepping up its competition with Marvel significantly; let’s hope they can also capture the cross-generational appeal of those films by combining action, characterization, […]

New Kingsman Trailer Emphasizes Action

I’m guessing the folks behind Kingsman: The Secret Service want to show viewers what they’re waiting for, now that the film has been moved from next month to next February. Here’s the official second trailer. (For comparison, I previously posted the first.) This one has more Samuel L. Jackson as the bad guy, a lot less Michael Caine. It’s centered on an action scene with Colin Firth and his umbrella — yay for more Firth! — with a lot more […]

Captain America: The Winter Soldier Out on DVD Tomorrow

Thinking back, Captain America: The Winter Soldier just might be my favorite Marvel superhero movie. Sure, it isn’t on as huge a scale as The Avengers and it doesn’t have the wackiness of Guardians of the Galaxy, but it also doesn’t have the sexism of the latter or the yet-another-dark-villain of either. So overall, it’s more balanced, less of a guilty pleasure and more just pleasure. Out tomorrow on home video is the movie, starring Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Anthony […]

This November, to mark the 25th Anniversary of Batman (the one directed by Tim Burton in 1989), Warner Bros. Home Entertainment will release a new Blu-ray, the Batman 25th Anniversary Two-Disc Edition. List price is $24.98. They’re putting it in the “studio’s distinctive new sleek Diamond Luxe collector-style packaging” and adding a new documentary, “Batman: The Birth of the Modern Blockbuster”. That addition is promised to be “a look at the phenomenal marketing, extensive merchandising, and franchise foresight that set […]
