Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders

I liked it! It’s fun! Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders is my new favorite original DC animated movie, because it kept my interest throughout. In case you missed seeing the trailer, this feature-length cartoon is set in the “Batman ’66” world, based on the TV show, with the original voices of Adam West as Batman, Burt Ward as Robin, and Julie Newmar as Catwoman. This film is, as is typical of those in the past, 80 minutes or so […]

DC Super Hero Girls: Hero of the Year

DC Super Hero Girls: Hero of the Year is the first — but likely not the last — original animated movie starring the redesigned teen girl versions of DC female heroes and villains. As a branding program, DC Super Hero Girls has been successful. They found an underserved niche — girls and their parents/adult friends who wanted heroic models for them — and made the most of it. That required redefining some of their best-known characters. For example, Harley Quinn […]

Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders Gets a New Trailer

The retro-styled Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders put out a teaser trailer last week, and the idea of doing a new cartoon with the 1966-style characters (and original voices Adam West, Burt Ward, and Julie Newmar) got a lot of attention. This more official trailer confirms that the dynamic duo will be facing off with the four classic villains: Catwoman, Joker, Penguin, and the Riddler. The cartoon will allow for more large-scale action than in the original TV show, […]

The movie will be available to purchase digitally on October 11 and on DVD or Blu-ray November 1. EW.com has the exclusive trailer, with hints of classic villains “in space”. It’s a shame that the blocky animation doesn’t […]

Justice League vs. Teen Titans

The latest original DCU animated movie is Justice League vs. Teen Titans, and it does what it says on the tin. It also tries to do more, which is admirable, but I thought its reach exceeded its grasp. There’s just too much in this movie for it to be called a success, although a lot of what they were trying to do I wanted to see. I’m talking mostly about the generational themes. This is the first appearance of the […]
