Image Eliminates Direct PDF Sales

As of tomorrow, Image Comics will no longer sell DRM-free digital comic versions through their website. Customers who have already purchased have until February to download. There was no press release, just an email message to existing customers, which also says Future titles will be available for purchase through our other digital vendor partners, and DRM-free versions through other services that offer it, like comiXology. Sounds as if they want to get out of the digital comic sales business, which […]

Check, Please!: #Hockey

Ngozi Ukazu’s immensely popular webcomic Check, Please! is here collected in the first of two volumes. Check, Please!: #Hockey covers the freshman and sophomore years of “Bitty”, a former figure-skating champion who’s playing hockey in college. He’s not your typical athlete, since he’s also an excellent baker and coming to terms with his authentic self. He’s also deathly afraid of being checked on the ice. This comic, like its lead, is adorable. It’s told as if we’re watching Bitty’s video […]

All the Answers

Michael Kupperman, better known for his satiric cartoons, here tries his hand at graphic biography. All the Answers is about his father’s time as a child star. His dad was Quiz Kid Joel Kupperman. Boom! Cancels Webcomic Collection Due to Plagarism

A few days ago, Boom! Studios announced that they would be publishing a collection next May of the webcomic Husband and Husband, a (not very visually exciting) strip about two guys together that’s been running since 2015. However, creators Jonathan and Aaron Ferrara launched this month a kickstarter for another comic project called Spellbound. They funded their goal of $10,00 in under a week, but there’s a snag. If you think those characters look familiar, you have likely seen the […]

In his first tournament, he faces off against Seiji, a well-accomplished prodigy. Six months later, they’re roommates at the same boarding school, both there to try and […]

Batman & Robin Crime Scene Investigations

This set of four hardcover storybooks makes up a new series in which the famous caped crimefighters use forensic investigation techniques to solve crimes. It’s a clever way to encourage scientific thinking and understanding the real-life background behind superhero adventures. The Batman & Robin Crime Scene Investigations series is written by Steve Korte, illustrated by Dario Brizuela, and published by Capstone Press. The subjects are well chosen: Fingerprints and footprints are classic mystery elements, while DNA keeps the heroes up-to-date […]

Molly and the Bear / Bear With Me

If you’re looking for a really well-drawn, classically paced and staged comic strip, you need to check out Bear With Me by Bob Scott. You can follow it either at GoComics or the artist’s website. Scott is a former Disney animator and previously co-penciled the strip U.S. Acres with Jim Davis (Garfield). He knows his stuff. The premise is basic — a 900-pound talking brown bear moves in with 11-year-old Molly and her parents — but it’s the simplicity of […]
