Doctor Who: The Ninth Doctor #1 (Ongoing)

I didn’t care much for the Doctor Who: The Ninth Doctor miniseries, complaining about its over-reliance on photo reference, slow pacing, and non-distinct character voices. I’m thrilled to say that, now that the series is an ongoing, the comic is much more enjoyable to read, with all those problems gone. It’s still written by Cavan Scott, but new artist Adriana Melo (Ms. Marvel) gives the art much more motion, action, and expression. The Doctor, Rose, and Captain Jack are still […]

Doctor Who Archives: Prisoners of Time Omnibus

As a companion to their many Doctor Who comic titles, Titan has collected the 12-issue Doctor Who: Prisoners of Time series originally published by IDW in 2013. Instead of the single-volume hardcover IDW put out, now we’ve got an affordable softcover with a cover that prioritizes the newer Doctors, in keeping with Titan’s audience. Prisoners of Time is a fun read for those who enjoy the whole gamut of Doctors (which only spanned to 11 when this was put out). […]

Doctor Who Summer Comic Event Crosses Over Four Doctors

In keeping with the tradition of the big summer event, Titan Comics has announced that they will publish a five-part weekly crossover in August among their ongoing Doctor Who comic titles. Their “Year One” will conclude with issue #15 in each title, followed by this weekly event, “Four Doctors”, written by Paul Cornell and illustrated by Neil Edwards. Each issue will have a regular cover with an illustration of the Doctor: Together, the backgrounds interlock. But there will also be […]

Doctor Who: The Eleventh Doctor #11

I haven’t been talking much about the Doctor Who: The Eleventh Doctor series. I liked companion Alice, but she quickly got lost in adding a couple more creatures traveling with them and a rather pedestrian storyline about the dangers of consumerism. However, I had to make note of issue #11 (written by Al Ewing and drawn by Boo Cook) because of companion Jones. He’s a Brit musician they picked up in the 60s. We’re told he’s destined to be a […]

Doctor Who: The Ninth Doctor #1

Completing the modern run of Doctors with their fourth title, Titan Comics has launched Doctor Who: The Ninth Doctor #1. This one’s a miniseries, five issues, written by Cavan Scott and drawn by Blair Shedd. So they can include the popular companions Rose and Captain Jack, the story “Weapons of Past Destruction” is set just after the two pick up the captain in the World War II-set TV story “The Doctor Dances”. The TV episodes moved quickly past the trio, […]

Doctor Who: The Twelfth Doctor #1

I was curious to try the launch of the Doctor Who: The Twelfth Doctor comic series, because I lost interest in the show in the second half of the Eleventh Doctor’s TV run. As a result, I haven’t seen any of the Peter Capaldi Doctor Who episodes. I thought the first issue, written by Robbie Morrison with art by Dave Taylor, might give me a good idea whether I should bother catching up. If driving interest in the master property […]

Doctor Who Photo Covers Create New Companions

The Doctor Who comics, like so many these days, are available with multiple covers. There’s usually a main art cover, possibly a painted variant, but there’s also been a lot of photo covers. These are easy enough to make with clip art, since there are likely tons of images of the previous Doctors in costume, striking poses, but what I’ve found particularly interesting is when they do photo covers with the new companions. The Eleventh Doctor, for example, doesn’t travel […]
