Kent Jones, “Comic Book Matrimonial Correspondent”, did a clip on Archie’s upcoming marriage on last night’s Rachel Maddow Show.
I loved the way he used all those art samples to make his point that Betty’s the catch — because she can cook and fix cars! — while marrying Veronica would make Archie “a widely envied idiot”. (But both girls are called smart!) And the punchline rocks!

Who reads “Archie?”
Seriously?
I remember reading a few at a friend’s grandmother’s house in 1974, and thinking it was old and irrelevant.
As for the cover:
Who proposes in a jewelry store?
Why does Jughead look like he’s losing his lover?
Is that Throckmorton P. Gildersleeve managing the jewelry store?

I read Archie, actually. I’m not looking for it to be relevant — I read more meaningful graphic novels for that. I’m looking for it to be nostalgic escapism, the same reason other people read superhero comics.

*SPOILER ALERT*
Archie is now officially a ‘widely envied idiot’
Yep, you guessed it, he proposed to Veronica.I read Archie comics avidly, and I encorage all Betty fans to strike against the comics. I will not be reading any more Archies until I get my Betty back :)

Eh, it’s an imaginary story. Wait three months, and he’ll propose to Betty. Although if sales on those issues jumped even higher than these, that would definitely send Archie Comics a message.
