Another Faith Erin Hicks Work Reissued in Color

Last year, one of Faith Erin Hicks’ earliest works, The War at Ellsmere, was reissued in a partially redrawn color edition, now titled One Year at Ellsmere. (I previously interviewed her about the process.) Earlier this month, another of her works was also reissued. Nothing Can Possibly Go Wrong, published in 2013, adapted a story by Prudence Shen. The new edition adds color, with no other changes. It’s the story of a friendship between the basketball team captain and the […]

Faith Erin Hicks’ New Book May Seem Familiar — An Interview

It’s been a great pleasure for me to follow the work and career of Faith Erin Hicks. I love her style, and she’s done some terrific reads over the years — The Nameless City trilogy, Friends With Boys, The Adventures of Superhero Girl, Nothing Can Possibly Go Wrong. I’m eagerly anticipating her upcoming Pumpkinheads, written by Rainbow Rowell, coming this fall. After that, there’s another “new” book — but long-time fans will recognize it. First Second will release One Year […]

Faith Erin Hicks Has a Novel Coming in 2019

One of this site’s favorite creators, Faith Erin Hicks, will be stretching her creative muscles with a young adult novel. That’s prose, not drawn, but given the title, I suspect it will be of interest to her fans. Roaring Brook Press will release in February 2019 the 336-page Comics Will Break Your Heart, and here’s the cover. She created individual art pieces to use in the letters. She described the book on Twitter as well. The rest of the book […]

Title Announced for Rainbow Rowell and Faith Erin Hicks’ Graphic Novel

Accomplished author Rainbow Rowell (Fangirl, Eleanor & Park, Attachments) is writing her first graphic novel, to be illustrated by Faith Erin Hicks (The Nameless City, The Adventures of Superhero Girl) and published by First Second Books. I have enjoyed the work of both creators, so I’ve been looking forward to this since it was first mentioned in 2014. (Hicks has previously done a good job adapting the work of a prose author with Nothing Can Possibly Go Wrong.) Now comes […]

Faith Erin Hicks’ Nameless City Gets a Cartoon

The Nameless City is the first of three books by Faith Erin Hicks set in a diverse fantasy world. The second, The Stone Heart, is out this week. Now comes news from EW.com that Frederator Studios will be animating the trilogy. They’re creating a 12-episode cartoon miniseries with each book getting four episodes, and the first set will be out in fall 2018. I’m not surprised to see this choice for an adaptation — Hicks’ animation background can be seen […]

Faith Erin Hicks to Write Buffy the Vampire Slayer Graphic Novel

Dark Horse has announced that they will be expanding their Buffy the Vampire Slayer comic line with an original graphic novel series called Buffy: The High School Years. The first volume, Freaks & Geeks, will be written by Faith Erin Hicks (Friends With Boys, The Adventures of Superhero Girl) with art by Yishan Li. (The background furniture in this piece looks like the same art style as my mom’s cookbooks from the 50s.) As with the other Buffy comics, this […]

Faith Erin Hicks Launches Friends With Boys Online

I’ve been anticipating the next graphic novel from Faith Erin Hicks (The War at Ellsmere, Superhero Girl) since she announced Friends With Boys two years ago. Now, I can start reading it! Friends With Boys will be published by First Second in February 2012, but until then, it’s being serialized online. The Friends With Boys website has launched with the first 32 pages of the book, and it will be updated with a new page every weekday. The comic updates […]

Faith Erin Hicks Announces Friends With Boys, Her Next Graphic Novel

Faith Erin Hicks, author of The War at Ellsmere and Zombies Calling, has announced via blog post that her next graphic novel will be Friends With Boys, to be published by First Second Books in (hopefully) 2011. It’s about a girl named Maggie, who has three brothers (as I do), who was home-schooled (as I was), and is now entering her first year of public high school (as I did). She also is stalked by a ghost (that has yet […]
