After some delay, the 1992 Captain America movie is now available as a made-on-demand DVD as part of the MGM Limited Edition Collection. The only extra on the disc is the trailer. It’s under two minutes, and it’s remarkably dark, sometimes so much it’s hard to see what’s going on (a problem the film also demonstrated, at least in my setup). Found on Amazon, there will be a November release for Captain America and its sequel Captain America II: Death Too Soon. These are the two 1979 TV movies starring the otherwise unknown Reb Brown, put out to keep the previously announced 90s telefilm company (it’s due out later this month), along with the big-budget Marvel movie that was so successful this summer. Shout! Factory is releasing, so the package should be nice, if nothing else — they’re a quality label. […]

The 1990 Captain America movie DVD, previously announced for release on July 19 via the MGM Limited Edition made-on-demand imprint, has been rescheduled for August 23. It will also have a new cover design, shown here, that adds the banner “re-released 1992 edition”. Thor & Loki: Blood Brothers is the newest Marvel Knights animation/motion comic project, first released online earlier this year. Based on the trailer, I found it a major step forward for the fledgling medium. Now comes word that the short series will be available on DVD on September 13. It seems like, every few decades, someone decides that it’s time for another look at Robert E. Howard’s barbarian warrior Conan. Although he first appeared in 1930s pulp stories, I became aware of the character in the early 80s, when the aptly-cast Arnold Schwarzenegger headlined the movie and its sequel. As with many of the Warner animation releases aimed directly at kids, this is a bare-bones, one-disc package to keep the price low. (With discounts, the DVD can be found under $10.) In addition to the four half-hour episodes, the only other items are trailers for Thundercats, The Looney Tunes Show, and as the disc starts, a couple of Scooby-Doo projects.
