Goldie Vance Continues in Two Ways

Goldie Vance: Larceny in La La Land

Goldie Vance, the comic series about a Nancy Drew-like girl solving mysteries and fighting crime in a retro beach hotel, has put out four graphic novels so far, with the last over a year and a half ago. That made me concerned that we may not see other stories while we waited for the movie to come out. (If that still happens, given what’s going on with another Boom! movie plan.)

I shouldn’t have worried. Boom! has announced that the next graphic novel will be Goldie Vance: Larceny in La La Land, due out in July. It can be preordered now from your local comic shop with Diamond code MAR20 1410.

Goldie Vance: Larceny in La La Land

It’s written by Jackie Ball (who took over writing the series from Hope Larson with the previous book in the series) and illustrated by Mollie Rose, with a cover by Brittney Williams (original series artist). Here’s the description:

Teen sleuth Goldie, and her friends Diane and Cheryl, fly to sunny Los Angeles for the trip of a lifetime! While Cheryl pursues her space dreams at JPL, and Diane continues her work as a remote scout for a music label, Goldie spends her days getting lost in the haze of old Hollywood, and becoming friends with a silent film star whose golden days are long behind her. But when her new friend is framed for stealing, Goldie must dive deep into the secret history of Tinsel Town to get to the bottom of it all!

“It was so much fun to send Goldie and her pals ‘on location’ to Los Angeles and old school Hollywood. The time period Goldie lived in was such a visually exciting time in LA, I couldn’t resist bringing her out to solve some Hollywood crimes,” said Ball. “I’m so pumped to be playing in Goldie’s world again, and I love love love this book!”

“I’m new to the world of Goldie Vance, but I was immediately charmed by the series. It’s such a delightful take on the teen mystery genre, with a super fun setting and a fantastic cast of interesting characters,” said Rose. “I’m really excited to be the one to introduce fans to the exciting new destinations, new faces, and new stories this volume brings!”

In the meantime, next month (on March 17) comes Goldie Vance: The Hotel Whodunit, a prose novel by Lilliam Rivera that “explores a never-before-seen caper and features 16 full-color comic pages [by Elle Power] essential to unraveling the mystery.”

While life at the Crossed Palms is always busy, the resort is currently overrun with Hollywood-types filming the hottest new creature feature, and tensions are at an all-time high. Even Goldie’s mom is in on the movie act, doing what she does best: playing a mermaid. Just when Goldie thinks the movie biz couldn’t get any more exciting, a diamond-encrusted swimming cap goes missing, and all fingers point to Goldie’s mom as the culprit. Can Goldie uncover the true thief before it’s too late?

I’m glad to see I was wrong about this being forgotten – Goldie’s a lot of fun to spend time with.
