Smut Peddler Kickstarter More Than Doubles Goal, Releases New Levels

The Smut Peddler Kickstarter has, at the time of this writing, more than doubled its goal of $20,000. It’s currently sitting at just over $47,000 with 15 days left to go. I wrote about this project when it launched, but for new readers, Smut Peddler is a female-friendly porn comic anthology that will pay bonuses to the contributing creators based on eventual funding level — the more the project makes, the more the artists make. Additionally, all the stories in […]

Savage Critics Launches Digital Comic Store

It’s not just that comic shop retailer Brian Hibbs makes such interesting decisions, it’s that he explains them in such informative ways. Take the latest, with Brian’s review site the Savage Critics (disclaimer: I was one for a short one) signing up to sell digital comics through Diamond’s program with iVerse. That Diamond connection is key, because right now, their offerings are only available through established retail accounts with physical storefronts, as Brian explains: Most of Diamond’s focus has been […]

Support Good Comic Porn: Smut Peddler Kickstarter Launches

The Smut Peddler Kickstarter has launched! It’s been live for less than a day, and it’s already close to the $20,000 funding goal. I’m impressed, but you should also note: the more money it makes, the more the contributing creators get paid. They’ve already gotten a page rate — no free work here — but more income means artist bonuses. You may remember the name Smut Peddler from a three-issue minicomic series that ended six years ago. This particular incarnation […]

Scott Pilgrim Re-Released in Color Hardcovers

The immensely successful and popular Scott Pilgrim series will be coming back to print in a new deluxe edition in August. The new cover of the first volume, shown here, is by creator Bryan Lee O’Malley. The books will be larger (6″x9″), full-color hardcovers. (Colors are by Nathan Fairbairn.) Although there are plenty of copies of the original black-and-white paperbacks in print since the series launch eight years ago, this is a great way to offer fans an upgrade… and […]

Kids’ Lego Comic Tops the Bestseller List

Known properties sure have an advantage when it comes to finding customers. Papercutz sent out a press release promoting how “Mask of the Sensei, the second volume in the top-selling LEGO® NINJAGO graphic novel series from Papercutz, shot to the top of the New York Times Paperback Graphic Book Best Seller list immediately upon release last week”. It beat several Batman and Walking Dead books to do so. The first volume in this series sold out 190,00 copies in its […]

Archie Sales Figures for 2011

Recently out, here are the Archie Comics sales figures based on the Statements of Ownership, Management, and Circulation the company is required to file in their publications. These numbers appeared in issues published between January 18 and February 15, 2012; the data was filed with the government on October 11, 2001. (For comparison, I’ve done the same things for books published in 2010, published in 2009, published in 2008, and published in 2007.) Before I get to the sales figures, […]

Archie Gets Political With Occupy Riverdale

Several sites have covered this brief Archie Comics blog post (no longer available) about an upcoming “Occupy Riverdale” story to appear in Archie #635 due in July 2012. It’s typical of Archie lately to pick storylines based on what will get them free press coverage, especially if it’s a hot-button political issue, such as gay marriage, or here, economic inequality. Using Veronica and her family to personalize the issue is a great idea, actually, and I hope they follow through […]

Diamond Digital Update: They Built an App

Diamond Digital, the program to allow comic shops to sell digital comics through Diamond Comic Distribution, was supposed to launch last September. It still hasn’t rolled out. However, ICv2 has a small update from the recent ComicPro retailer meeting. There they announced that iVerse has built a “Digital Comic Reader App”. Comic stores will sell digital comics either in-store or online using the app, which does not connect to iVerse’s existing store. The quote from iVerse CEO Michael Murphey indicates […]
