Giant Days: Early Registration Reprints Earliest Issues

Giant Days is one of this site’s favorite ongoing comics. The story of Esther, Daisy, and Susan navigating college is funny and insightful. It’s written by John Allison (Scary Go Round) and drawn mostly by Max Sarin. However, before Boom! began publishing the ongoing series in 2015, Allison wrote *and drew* three self-published issues with the same characters. The first of these was published as an extra in the Not on the Test Edition volume 1 hardcover. The second was […]

Neat Vampire Show Running on CW Seed

Before he was grumpy military cop on Hawaii Five-O, Alex O’Loughin starred in the 2007 series Moonlight as a modern-day vampire who hooks up with a reporter (Sophia Myles, “The Girl in the Fireplace” on Doctor Who). I started watching it because his vampire mentor is played by Jason Dohring (Veronica Mars), but I was quickly sucked into the moody crime-fighting drama. Emphasis on the drama, as Alex’s character has an ex-wife (who turned him, played by Shannyn Sossamon) and […]

Most Popular Manga of 2017 (From Kodansha & Viz Through 1 Library Service)

OverDrive, a service to provide digital copies through libraries, has posted their list of the 6 Most Popular Manga Series of last year. Note, though, that they only seem to offer manga from Kodansha and Viz (so leaving out Yen and others), and they are not the only digital library service. (Another I’m familiar with is Hoopla.) It’s also unclear whether this list is ranked or random. (That it nicely alternates between publishers suggests to me it’s “arranged”.) Anyway, I […]

DC Can’t Let Go of Cities Being More Important Than Characters

Word of another DC TV show exclusive to the coming DC digital subscription service has just broken. In addition to the live-action Titans and the animated Harley Quinn show and Young Justice season 3, in 2019, the service will air a 13-episode season of the live-action Metropolis. Yes, in the tradition of Gotham (which has four seasons under its belt, so nothing to sneeze at) and the upcoming Krypton, the city gets star billing. Because that way you don’t have […]

Titan’s Doctor Who Comics Going on Hiatus

Looking at the last few Previews catalogs, in the Titan Comics section, I found it interesting to note that there were fewer Doctor Who comic issues offered. In December, we could order The Tenth Doctor Year Three #14 (DEC171835, which is labeled the end of that run and is due out at the end of February) or The Twelfth Doctor Year Three #13 (DEC171838, which is also labeled a conclusion and due out March 7). In January’s catalog, there are […]
