Tokyopop Publishing Again With Disney Adaptations

As hinted in summer 2015, Tokyopop is back, via two book listings in the Diamond Previews preorder catalog for the comic book store market. (No word yet on the bigger plans discussed for apps and a wide-ranging media presence.) Tokyopop stopped publishing in the US in May 2011 , after an attempt at a reality TV show. They came back in 2013 with print-on-demand versions of the few licenses they still held. Most were lost when the company went down, […]

Kurosagi Corpse Delivery Service Sells Better as Omnibus

In this interview with Director of International Publishing and Licensing Michael Gombos and Manga Editor Carl Horn about Dark Horse’s manga business, they reveal some positive news about how the Kurosagi Corpse Delivery Service omnibus is doing. According to Horn, This is a title that has struggled as a regular series, volume to volume. We sold more of the first printing than we sold of any individual volume…. This is a title that we’ve began 10 years ago and it’s […]

Sherlock Manga Coming to English

Back in 2012, a manga adaptation of the Sherlock TV show starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman began running in Japan. Now, that comic comes to English for the US and UK via Titan Comics. Sherlock: A Study in Pink will debut in June. They’re describing it as “a manga comic series”, so I’m guessing it will appear in issues before being collected, similar to the way the original was serialized in chapters. A Study in Pink was the first […]

Kurosagi Corpse Delivery Service Omnibus Volume 3 Contains Good Starting Point Stories

Due out tomorrow, The Kurosagi Corpse Delivery Service Book Three Omnibus contains a few stories that make for great starting points as it continues the omnibus collected series. This book reprints volumes 7-9 of the gruesome (but insightful) manga series written by Eiji Otsuka and drawn by Housui Yamasaki. Volume 8, in particular, puts the crew into a school recruitment drive, which means new (or forgetful) readers, along with the fictional potential new members, get reminders of who’s who in […]

What Did You Eat Yesterday? Returns in May

What Did You Eat Yesterday?, Fumi Yoshinaga’s series about the everyday life of a gay couple, is one of my favorite manga. I love her art, and I love the way the stories revolve around food and cooking and meals together as signs of feelings, and I love getting new ideas about how to assemble meals or prepare Japanese dishes. There have been nine volumes released so far in English from Vertical, with the most recent coming out last July. […]

Yotsuba&! to Return in May

What exciting news! It’s been over two years since Yotsuba&! last appeared in English, with Yotsuba&! volume 12 released in November 2013. I adore these light-hearted stories by Kiyohiko Azuma about an unusual little girl, her father, and their friends. Yotsuba has her own view of the world, and her cheeriness, imagination, and openness to the new is refreshing and inspiring. Yen Press has tweeted that volume 13 is now due out in May: In case you hadn't heard, the […]
