Doctor Who Watch – Because I Needed Another Project

Thanks to encouragement from friends, I decided to create a Tumblr blog called Doctor Who Watch and rewatch Doctor Who. Yes, all of it. I’ll likely alternate between classic and modern, with no promises as to when there will be new posts. I’m starting with the 13th Doctor, Jodie Whittaker, though, in honor of the upcoming New Year’s Special. There has to be some use out of acquiring this many Doctor Who DVDs. I won’t be copying the content here, […]

Enola Holmes Lawsuit Settled

I was not surprised to hear that the Arthur Conan Doyle estate sued Netflix (as well as production company Legendary Pictures, Penguin Random House, and the author of the original books Nancy Springer) over the Enola Holmes movie back in June (in New Mexico, of all places). They have a reputation of trying to get funds when big-pocket participants are involved in Sherlock Holmes projects. (They promote, on their website, licensing the character for, in addition to Sherlock, the US […]

One More Month for DC Universe

I pretty much stopped news-blogging before DC Universe started, so I haven’t covered it much here. Remember? That was the streaming service launched just before AT&T acquired Warner. It had digital comics; original TV shows (some of which were also aired on the CW when pandemic quarantine shut down production and the TV network needed content); and lots of older video programming. That last item was why I didn’t pay much attention to the service. It turned out that I […]

Doom Patrol Season 2 Coming January

I’ve pretty much given up on most superhero TV shows (with the exception of Legends of Tomorrow) — nothing wrong with them, exactly, only I want to enjoy different kinds of entertainment, most happier or lighter-hearted. I’ve heard good things about Doom Patrol, though, and it seems like my kind of superhero group — a gang of misfits with unusual abilities and backgrounds. (The cast, with Timothy Dalton, Brendan Fraser, Matt Bomer, and April Bowlby, is pretty good, too.) I […]

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow: The Complete Fifth Season

I still love Legends of Tomorrow. The show has a sense of fun and playfulness and not-taking-anything-too-seriously that is so necessary to keep from getting bored of superheroics on TV. So many of the episodes and seasons follow formula — and those expectations are part of the genre, and there’s nothing wrong with that — that I want a little something more to keep my interest. DC’s Legends of Tomorrow: The Complete Fifth Season came out in September, but since […]

Audrey: More Than an Icon

Out next week on home video is a new documentary on Audrey Hepburn. Audrey: More Than an Icon is available on DVD or Blu-ray December 15, and on VOD on January 5. I requested and was provided a DVD review copy, because some of her films are some of my favorites, and I was curious to learn more about hoer life. I must have already picked up more than I realized, because I don’t felt as though I learned much […]

The Most Popular Streaming Genres in Several Countries

Thanks to the good folks at Just Watch, who provided this data, I found out what the most popular genres are for streaming movies and TV shows in several countries. Comedy ranks highest in the US, UK, France, Spain, and Italy. (That’s common — 28 out of the 60 surveyed countries had comedy rank first.) It comes second in India, after Thriller. The top five genres, in order, in the US are Comedy Horror Action Family Science Fiction The UK […]
