Sabrina TV Show to Take More Horrific Direction

The CW, pleased with the delayed viewing figures and growing fan base for Riverdale, is looking to create a companion TV show based around Sabrina the teenage witch, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Riverdale showrunner (and Archie Comics Chief Creative Officer) Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and producer Greg Berlanti are developing The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, “a dark coming-of-age tale that traffics in horror, the occult and witchcraft… in the vein of Rosemary’s Baby and The Exorcist“. So, a big change from […]

Next DC TV Crossover Announced

The crossover among the DC TV shows Arrow, The Flash, and Legends of Tomorrow last year apparently did well enough that they’re doing another one. (Supergirl was part of last year’s, but that show’s involvement was minimal. That will change this year.) “Invasion!” featured the invading alien Dominators and teamed up all the main characters from the four shows. Now comes the following promotion for the next event. “Crisis on Earth-X” uses the “Crisis” phrasing that first was used in […]

American Gods DVD, Blu-ray Announced

The well-reviewed TV adaptation of the Neil Gaiman book American Gods will be available in October for those of us who don’t subscribe to Starz. The eight-episode first season can be purchased digitally on October 6 and on DVD (list price $34.98) or Blu-ray (list price $39.99) on October 17. Unusually, they’re showing very different box art, as seen here: As expected from the plot — an ex-convict named Shadow Moon (Ricky Whittle) finds himself working for “Mr. Wednesday” (Ian […]

Young Justice to Add 3 Women in Third Season

This DC-posted video clip has some interesting revelations about the coming third season of Young Justice, which will be airing on a new DC digital service next year. First, there will be a time jump, length unspecified, between the end of season two and this season. Next, they will be adding three female team members, as shown here. Left to right, it’s Spoiler, Thirteen, and Arrowette. They will join Static, Kid Flash, Wonder Girl, Robin, Arsenal, Blue Beetle, and Beast […]

I’d Forgotten There Was Going to Be a Krypton TV Show

It’s an obvious idea, given the success of Gotham, going into its fourth season on Fox, but I’d completely forgotten that Syfy will be running Krypton next year. Like Gotham, which explores the famous setting before Batman became Batman, Krypton is set two generations (which they’re equating to 200 years) before Superman’s home planet blows up. Here’s the short Comic-Con teaser trailer: Why, though? Gotham City is interesting, and there are tons of well-known characters who can be hinted at. […]

iZombie Season 3 Announced for Blu-ray and DVD

iZombie is a lot of fun, with some great performances, and I’m glad to hear there are already plans for a fourth season. In the meantime, all 13 episodes of season 3 will be available on DVD and Blu-ray (via the Warner Archive, as with Lucifer) on October 3 as iZombie: The Complete Third Season. Rose McIver plays Liv Moore, a medical examiner who uses her unique state to solve crimes in partnership with police detective Clive Babineaux (Malcolm Goodwin) […]

Watch Adam West on Powerless for a Limited Time

When NBC cancelled superhero sitcom Powerless, they did so with some episodes left unaired. One of those featured an appearance by the recently departed Adam West. Now DC has posted that episode, “Win, Luthor, Draw”, to its YouTube channel for a limited time. In this episode, the city is being attacked by evil aliens, and they destroy Emily (Vanessa Hudgens)’s new condo, leaving her homeless and without savings. Plus, her boss Van Wayne (Alan Tudyk) tries to become the Flash. […]

Arrow Season 5 Completes the Set of Fall WB DC Releases

I haven’t seen the most recent season of Arrow, because my taste in superheroes is more light-hearted than this granddaddy of the DC TV universe, but I’m told that this was the season that built a new hero team with Mr. Terrific (Echo Kellum), Artemis (Madison McLaughlin), Wild Dog (Rick Gonzalez), and Ragman (Joe Dinicol). Meanwhile, Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) is juggling being a hero with being the mayor of Star City, and the Human Target (Wil Traval) comes back […]
