WarGames to Return as Interactive Series

I adore the WarGames movie. It’s still one of the best-ever portraits of what hacking is really about (research, social engineering, and grunt work). I didn’t see the direct-to-video sequel WarGames: The Dead Code that came out ten years ago because why would I? (Did anyone? But everyone was trying to wring additional value out of intellectual property then.) Now I find out that they’re rebooting as an “interactive series” based on this trailer. The pictures of “hackers” look ridiculously […]

Sabrina Show Moves From CW to Netflix

Ah, Netflix. What would we do without your apparently bottomless pile of cash to save TV shows and pilots? A couple of months ago, the CW was looking to make The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, a horror-based take on the Sabrina the Teenage Witch concept from Archie Comics (source of the increasingly popular Riverdale TV adaptation). Now comes word that the CW has passed, but Netflix has so much faith in the concept that they have ordered two seasons of […]

Comet TV – Great for Remembering Fan Favorites

Comet TV has just begun promoting their schedule for December, which means I get to see if Earth Girls Are Easy is as much colorful fun as I remember. Jeff Goldblum (currently on-screen as a different kind of oddly colored alien in Thor: Ragnarok), Geena Davis, Charles Rocket, Jim Carrey, Damon Wayans, and Julie Brown star in this sci-fi musical directed by Julien Temple and based on Brown’s song. Earth Girls Are Easy airs on Comet Friday, December 15, at […]

Harley Quinn Gets Her Own Animated TV Show

I guess Warner was pretty happy with how the Batman and Harley Quinn movie did, since Deadline is reporting that “26 episodes of [a] half-hour adult animated action-comedy series” titled Harley Quinn has been ordered to run on the upcoming DC digital subscription service. The “adult” is worrisome, since that approach made the Batman movie so tacky, as is who’s behind this new cartoon: “Powerless executive producers Justin Halpern & Patrick Schumacker and Dean Lorey”. I was about to bring […]

Not So Fast, New Warriors – TV Series Plans on Hold

This past spring, Freeform (a channel part of the ABC/Disney family) decided they wanted a New Warriors TV series. It was going to be a half-hour live-action sitcom about young superheroes. Many people were excited about the show idea because one of the characters was going to be Squirrel Girl, a fan favorite. Now comes word that Freeform has dropped the series (although they’re still proceeding with their Cloak and Dagger show plans). Producers are shopping the show around to […]

Comic-Con HQ Video Channel Calls It Quits

Too many options, not enough people willing to pay for specialty video entertainment. Comic-Con HQ, the subscription video channel that launched last summer from Lionsgate and the company that runs the San Diego Comic-Con, has shut down. At least when it comes to selling direct to customers. If you now visit their site, you’ll see links to ad-supported platforms like Tubi TV and Roku’s recently launched Roku Channel[.] Amazon will continue to sell Comic-Con HQ’s catalog through its Channels video […]

Constantine Animated Series Coming to CW Seed in 2018

The Constantine series was the first comic-book TV failure of the current era, with the series only running 13 episodes on NBC from 2014-2015. It was an odd choice in the first place for such a safe network, since it was about a conflicted, foul-talking demon fighter who could be as bad as the evil he fought, played by Matt Ryan. But Warner hasn’t given up on the character. (Which is great, since the show was better than you might […]
