More J. Jonah Jameson to Come from JK Simmons

In this brief clip provided by SiriusXM, JK Simmons answers the question as to whether we’ll see him again as J. Jonah Jameson in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This comes from a call-in to The Jess Cagle Show. I have to say, one thing the Marvel movies get very right is their casting. Simmons is perfect as the grumpy, old-school newspaper editor, just as Robert Downey Jr. was perfect as Iron Man and Benedict Cumberbatch as Dr. Strange. I’m so […]

Ruby Rose Quits Batwoman

This is one of those “shame we’ll never know” stories. The star of Batwoman, Ruby Rose, has left the show, and no one’s saying why, although there was a significant on-set injury during a stunt, and the typically regressive superhero audience harassed the actor off of Twitter. Warner will be replacing the lead role with a new, original character. According to Decider, “Ryan Wilder is about to become Batwoman. She’s likable, messy, a little goofy and untamed. She’s also nothing […]

Wonder Woman Series Coming to Blu-ray

Coming at the end of July is the release of Wonder Woman: The Complete Series, all three seasons of the 1970s TV show, remastered for Blu-ray. The show starred Lynda Carter as Diana Prince, who in season one was Wonder Woman in the 1940s (and aired on ABC). Seasons two and three (on CBS) moved the show to the then-current 70s, with Steve Trevor (Lyle Waggoner) now the son of the previous and the two working as some kind of […]

Scooby-Doo Origin Movie Goes to Home Video

Warner Bros. has announced that Scoob!, the first full-length animated Scooby-Doo movie intended for theaters, will instead be available through home video services beginning on May 15. Or, as they put it, “available for both Premium Video On Demand (PVOD) and for premium digital ownership in the U.S. and Canada… while theaters remain closed due to the current global health crisis.” I don’t know why “premium” keeps popping up, unless it’s to make us feel better about the pricing, or […]

Watch Retro Anime for Free (With Ads and App)

A new service, Retro Crush, has just launched that promises classic anime streaming for free (with ads). You can access them by downloading their app for iOS, Apple TV, Roku, Fire TV, or Google Play. I haven’t bothered to check yet, but their publicity claims they have, among other viewings: Urusei Yatsura 2: Beautiful Dreamer (based on Rumiko Takahashi’s series about an alien girl in a tiger-stripe bikini) Black Jack: The Movie (based on Osamu Tezuka’s bonkers series about a […]

Bloodshot Available on Digital Already

The pandemic situation, and the resulting closure of most public spaces, means usual rules are out the window. Traditionally, a movie wouldn’t be available for home viewing until three months after its theatrical release, in order for the various movie theaters (first-run, discount, etc.) to make money. Annoying one’s distribution partners doesn’t allow for good ongoing business relationships. However, now that movie theaters have been closed, that no longer applies. Bloodshot came out in theaters on March 13, right before […]

Bloodshot Disappoints; Will We Ever See New Mutants?

This past Friday was the opening of the Valiant movie Bloodshot, starring Vin Diesel. Kyle Pinion at the Beat called it “a largely sluggish, CGI overrun mess… so much of it is just a bland nothing.” It came in third this opening weekend, behind the latest Pixar cartoon and a faith-based film, with under $10 million. That’s not very good, but circumstances are incredibly unusual. The bigger headline is that, due to quarantine concerns, the weekend box office hit a […]

Lucifer Season 4 Due on DVD

I got Netflix to be able to watch Lucifer season 4 when it debuted there last year, because the show is one of my favorite guilty pleasures. I realized I had a problem with binging, though. I went through the episodes so quickly that a couple of weeks later, I didn’t remember much of what happened. It’s easy enough to rewatch, of course, or I could just get the complete season of 10 episodes on DVD later this year. Lucifer: […]
